«It is a real satisfaction for Quarteira to host this competition again», says Vítor Aleixo

The 20th International Triathlon of Quarteira “Prof. Carlos Gravata” takes place on the 26th and 27th of March and will once again bring together the main national and European athletes of the sport.

The event takes place over two days and will feature around 400 athletes representing 35 countries. On Saturday, the 26th, the women's and men's Elite European Cup competitions will take place in the afternoon.

On Sunday, 27th, in the morning, the competitions of the Junior Women's and Men's European Cup take place, and the event ends with the Portuguese Cup.

All competitions consist of a 1,5-kilometre swimming course in the waters of Quarteira beach, followed by 40 kilometers of cycling and 10 kilometers of athletics, in which participants will travel through the main arteries of the city, with the goal installed once again on Avenida Marginal.

«It is a real satisfaction for Quarteira to once again host this competition, which stands out in the calendar of events, not only for the modality, but also for this city and which plays an important role for the local economic fabric, namely for the hotel industry, commerce and for the restoration", says Vítor Aleixo, mayor of Loulé

«I express, once again, my thanks to the Portuguese Triathlon Federation, the local organizing committee and the European Federation for the opportunity to annually host this international competition that Quarteira and the entire municipality of Loulé are very proud of», he adds.

This Triathlon, which has been taking place since 2002, pays tribute to a great personality from the municipality of Loulé who marked the world of sport in the Algarve, its main promoter, Professor Carlos Gravata.
