Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and Secondary Schools mark 17.500 days in Liberdade

Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, together with several schools in the region, marks an important milestone for Democracy

Tomorrow, March 24th, 17.500 days will be spent in Liberdade. One more day than those lived in dictatorship during the Estado Novo. To mark this important milestone in Portuguese Democracy, the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, together with several schools in the region, promotes the 17.500 days in Liberdade initiative, in the auditorium of Escola Secundária João de Deus, in Faro, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.

The event's program includes interventions by the Elisabete Rodrigues (Censorship in the Estado Novo), Luís Villas Boas (The Colonial War/the movement of the Capitães de Abril), Carlos Albino (the dawn of the Revolution) and Liliana Palhinha (the political prison), interspersed with brief thematic notes presented by the students.

The session will be attended by 12th grade students from João de Deus Secondary Schools (Faro), Secondary Tomás Cabreira (Faro), Bemposta School Group (Portimão) Pinheiro and Rosa Secondary (Faro), Secondary Francisco Fernandes Lopes (Olhão) and Secondary José Belchior Viegas (S. Brás de Alportel).
