More than 1000 stone pines and cork oaks were planted and 2,5 tons of invasive plants were removed from a plot of land on Ancão beach in the last month, as part of the Forest Management Plan (PGF) that was put into practice on the 14th of January by the company AM|48, owner of the property.

The trees that were planted represent more than a third of the trees provided for in the PGF, which provides for the planting of 3 trees.

Work was also started on the placement of structures to promote biodiversity in Ancão, namely by fixing nest boxes to attract insectivorous birds and wooden structures were built to serve as a shelter for the wild rabbit, a species recently classified as “endangered with extinction”. ” in part due to the high mortality caused by a new strain of viral hemorrhagic disease”, according to AM|48.

“Wood clusters were also installed that will serve as a refuge and habitat for a high number of animals such as reptiles, micromammals and insects typical of forest environments. In the coming months, the number of these structures will multiply across the land, including shelters for bats», added the company.

With the Ancão Forest Management Plan, its promoters aim “not only to enhance the space from an environmental and landscape point of view, but also to promote the conservation and recovery of biodiversity and preserve the landscape”, while reducing “the danger of forest fires and soil erosion'.
