March/race in Castro Marim ends cancer prevention project

“MOV.On” has been running for 3 years

Hundreds of people took part in the closing march/race of the “MOV.On” (Oncological Movement for Life) project, which took place yesterday, Sunday, the 20th, in Castro Marim.

In the last three years, “MOV.On” has promoted healthy lifestyles as a form of cancer prevention in two countries.

Yesterday, to close the project, two walking/running routes were promoted, «a shorter one, through the heritage of the border village, and a long one, of more than 10 kilometers, through the charming landscape of the Sapal de Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António», according to the Castro-Marine council.

Developed by Associação Oncológica do Algarve (AOA) and co-financed by the Portugal/Spain Cross-border Cooperation Program (POCTEP), “MOV.On” «was based on a wide network of volunteers and institutional support, contributing to a new citizenship in health» .

The project also made it possible to continue «giving life to the project started by Dr. Santos Pereira, founder of AOA and promoter and creator of the Algarve Radiotherapy Unit [opened in 2006], an Algarvean who, in his passage, contributed a lot to the fight against cancer and quality of life in the Algarve. Today, AOA continues with these projects, focused not only on treatment but also on prevention».
