German struggling on Furnas beach transported by helicopter to hospital

after a swim

A man of about 34 years of age, of German nationality, who "had difficulties in the water and without motor skills", after a swim at Furnas beach (Vila do Bispo), had to be transported by the INEM helicopter to the hospital. , due to the suspicion of having suffered a spinal injury.

The National Maritime Authority reveals that the alert was received at around 15:40 pm, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisboa), informing that there was a person with no mobility on the beach.

Elements of the local Command of the Maritime Police of Lagos, as well as the Volunteer Firefighters of Vila do Bispo and INEM were immediately sent to the scene, supported by an Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle (VMER).

The victim, who was conscious, was pulled out of the water by a member of the public, having been helped by INEM elements who, “after a medical evaluation”, “found that it could be a spinal injury”.

An INEM helicopter was then called and transported the young German to a hospital unit.

The local command of the Maritime Police of Lagos took care of the incident.
