The municipal budget of São Brás de Alportel for 2022, of around 13,6 million euros, was approved on 22 December. The municipality says that the document "legitimizes, once again, the good practices" of the executive, but the PSD has already gone public criticizing the fact that they were not included.of their contributions.
In a press release, the City Council of São Brás de Alportel says that, "as is usual practice", President Vítor Guerreiro "previously invited the councilors elected by the PSD in the City Council and the member elected by the CDU in the City Assembly, given this party not having a seat in the executive, to present proposals for the budget and also promoted a meeting prior to the vote to present, in general terms, this structuring document for the action of the municipality».
According to the autarchy, the «element elected by the CDU presented a set of 12 proposals, most of which are integrated in the Municipal Budget. The elements elected by the PSD in the City Council did not submit any proposal».
From the Social Democratic Party, the answer also came in a note sent to newsrooms.
The PSD says it was "perplexed" by the "demagogic attitude of the socialist executive regarding the contribution to the Budget and the Great Plan Options (GOP)".
The Social Democrats lament the "submission of the Budget and the Plan's Major Options late, with a 24-hour deadline for changing the inclusion of proposals."
“This reveals the socialist executive's unwillingness to open up to receive contributions from the opposition, thus presenting a closed budget. We also regret the clumsy way in which the presentation of the GOP was carried out, not dignifying this body and this document, which is the most important of the municipal management, and also the delay in its delivery when it is normally presented during the month of November», they accuse.
“Although the socialist executive continues to put our ideas and proposals in the drawer for the most part, we are proud of the collaborative work we have been doing. However, it seems that the 150 proposals of our municipal electoral program and the countless proposals presented at a chamber meeting for budget compliance are not enough», it reads.
As for the City Council, it guarantees that "ensuring the sustainability and financial balance of the municipality continues to be the basic principle of the São Brasense budget, allied to a strong reinforcement of support for the recovery of the economy and local entrepreneurship, given the current crisis".
The document is also focused, according to the executive, "on strengthening social responses and promoting social cohesion, with a strong focus on housing."
"The fight against climate change appears in this budget with a new line of force, along with a set of new strategic lines, associated with the areas where the municipality will see its competences strengthened throughout the year, thanks to the transfer of the State, namely in the areas of education, social action and health», says the City Council.
"The continued commitment to quality of life and support for families with increased investment in the areas of education, environment, health and sports, as well as the guarantee of security and civil protection responses complete the main pillars of the Municipal Budget for 2022" , he adds.
These principles must be fulfilled "with a rigorous planning of investments for the execution of the municipality's development strategy, and in alignment with the Community Funds calendar".

The budget was approved by the Municipal Assembly on December 22, by majority, with votes in favor of the members elected by the PS, votes against by the members elected by the PSD and the abstention of the member elected by the CDU.
