Graça de Sousa presents the novel “Pegadas na rua” at the Municipal Library of Portimão

The Portuguese-Angolan writer Graça de Sousa will present her new novel “Pegadas na rua” at the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library, in Portimão, on the 22nd of January, at 16:00.

This work, launched in August with the seal of the Chiado publisher, talks about the «marks of the soul of those who were brutally deprived of one of the greatest references of Man, obtained, not only at birth, but throughout life – nationality – in the the most intimate sense of the term, the one that is born from the genuine connection with a land, regardless of the granting of the legislation that determines, and varies with time and according to dubious interests, who is a national here or there», according to the synopsis of the book .

These are «invisible marks», which «cannot be erased no matter how strong the winds of history may be». In the same way, «erasing the footprints in the sand, will not prevent them from having existed».

With dual nationality, Angolan and Portuguese, Graça de Sousa was born in Sá da Bandeira, present-day Lubango, in 1946, a descendant of a family that settled there from the XNUMXth century onwards, also having a deep connection to Portugal, where she lived for several years. periods.

“Pegadas na arena” is her third book, after “Bandeira a half-masto”, signed under the pseudonym Suzana Benje, which worked as “the necessary relief to be able to try other flights in the field of fiction”, followed by “A valsinha”, a book of short stories in which the stage is the Algarve, particularly the city of Portimão, where he has lived for several years.
