Teachers and professionals from day care centers and ATL will be able to boost the vaccine against covid-19 in an Open House regime in the afternoon on the days 6, 7, 8 and 9 January, theannounced the Deputy Secretary of State and Health.
In an interview with CNN Portugal on Monday night, Lacerda Sales said that this booster vaccination takes place on the same days as the children's vaccination, scheduled for the morning, and that professionals only need to use digital passwords and show a document that prove your employment.
On Monday, Lacerda Sales guaranteed that the return to school will take place on January 10th, ruling out the possibility of being postponed due to the increase in cases of covid-19.
“I think that measure [postponement] is certainly not on the table. And, therefore, classes start on January 10th for children, because this is a fundamental measure for the physical, mental, social and psychological health of our children», said the government official, in Coimbra.
The statements by Lacerda Sales came on the same day that the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) lamented that half of the teachers continue without the booster dose of the covid-19 vaccine, considering that delaying the reopening of schools would be synonymous with 'failure of decisions and measures taken'.
According to Fenprof accounts, about half of the teachers are still waiting to be called for the booster dose: «due to the aging of the teaching profession, about half of the teachers and educators may have already been vaccinated or scheduled to be vaccinated, however, all the others continue to wait».
Due to the increase in the number of new cases of covid-19, the Government decided to postpone for a week (until the 10th) the resumption of classes.
