Castro Marim will have a budget of more than 22 million euros, the biggest «since 2013»

Inland water supply and housing strategy are the main banners

Castro Marim will have, in 2022, the largest Municipal Budget «since 2013», in the amount of 22,6 million euros (22.639.120 euros), which «gives priority to the continuity of investments in domestic water supply, one of the greatest goals of the last eight years, and the development of a new housing policy that can accommodate the new families of Castro Marim», announced the Chamber.

According to the municipality, “it is expected that, at the beginning of this year, the water supply works to Pisa Barro de Baixo, Pisa Barro de Cima and Matos, as well as the Rehabilitation of the Azinhal Water Reservoir, will start”.

«In addition to the development and improvement of the living conditions of the resident population, the realization of these projects, in addition to mobile network and internet coverage, represents an undeniable appreciation of the interior of the municipality of Castro Marim, functioning as an attractive factor for new residents and as lever of the local economy, namely in the tourism sector», defends the Câmara de Castro Marim.

As for the other major flag of this budget, “a Local Housing Strategy for six years is being prepared, with a view to making houses available on the market, for housing at controlled costs and income supported in the most consolidated urban centers, but above all in the villages dispersed, where there is already a drinking water network, and also as a way of combating desertification».

Along the same lines, several investments within the municipality are foreseen in the Great Options of the Plan, «such as the Nautical Activities Center, at the Odeleite Dam, a work already in progress, and the project for Regadio das Margens da Ribeira de Odeleite».

On the other hand, the municipality emphasizes the inclusion in the Municipal Budget of works “of particular importance” such as “the EN 125-6 cycle path – Stretch Espargosa – Praia Verde, the Multifunctional Space surrounding Casa do Sal and the execution of the infrastructure works of the Detailed Plan nº 1 of Altura, whose urbanization and infrastructure works also imply the requalification of the surroundings of the Escola de Altura».

Also foreseen are «part of the financial contributions filed with the “Entreendimento Turístico da Verdelago”, in which proposals for funds for the requalification of Rua da Alagoa, in Altura, construction of Rotunda Praia Verde, construction of the Multipurpose Pavilion of Altura and improvement and requalification of the east side of Avenida 24 de Junho, in Altura».

«In the same scope are funds intended for the completion of the infrastructures of the Urbanization of Quinta do Cabeço - LUPAMAR and for the completion of the infrastructures in the Urbanização das Laginhas in Monte Francisco, complex processes that include the elaboration of a Detailed Plan», revealed the Chamber.

With regard to solid waste collection and urban cleaning, there are also new developments in sight, arising from the new national policy on urban solid waste, which will be imposed from March 2022, which «obliges that there is a selective separation of bio waste, which has to go through the awareness of large producers, the restaurants, in accordance with the terms of the Law, and the creation of an efficient internal structure. The law will oblige large producers to have an autonomous selective collection, and the municipalities will not be able to bear these costs».

«These are new challenges, which imply a new organizational structure, a new municipal awareness, the reorganization of services and also permanent, continuous training», underlines Filomena Sintra, vice-president and councilor for the areas in question.

The Chamber also emphasizes that the restoration of the IMI rate to 0.4% in 2021, “the same as approved for this year”, made it possible to move forward “with the funding of key works in the context of social and health support, such as the Alzheimer's Home at Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Castro Marim, under construction, and the Local Firefighter Training Unit in the village of Azinhal (with approved funding)».

«In 2022, Castro Marim also foresees a major reinforcement of social action and education measures, inevitable in the face of the pandemic, such as the Mobile Health Unit and the CLDS project “Castro Marim (COM)Vida”, of which the Municipality is a partner and which develops actions from childhood to combat loneliness in senior groups», he added.

«All these municipal investments add to a growing economic dynamic that has been witnessed in the territory, with the completion of large projects such as Verdelago, Eco Hotel da Maravelha or Cannprisma (planting and exploitation of medical cannabis)», he summarized. the autarchy.
In the year that is now beginning, “great challenges” are also expected, linked to the transfer of State competences in the areas of beaches, health, education, social action and natural spaces, decentralization that “implies the organic reorganization of the internal services of the Chamber, which also translates into an increase in staff costs of around 19%».
