Aljezur approved a municipal budget of 14,6 million euros for 2022, an increase of two million euros compared to the previous year.

According to the Chamber, the budget was approved in a meeting of the Chamber and in the Municipal Assembly, by majority and with the abstention of the political forces of the opposition. This vote «reinforces the reality of the rigor and effort of the municipality, to be able to continue investing, to continue to support in a year that lies ahead of great complexity and demand».

The budget of the Aljezur City Council, for the 2022 financial year, provides for an overall income and expenditure in the amount of 14.686.202,00 euros, an increase of about 2.032.432,00 euros, compared to 2021, therefore approximately 16,6% growth.

«In terms of IMI and IRS rates, we continue to pay attention to people and it was with them in mind that we approved the IMI rate for the minimum (0,30%), and we will waive the entirety of the IRS, the 5% to that the municipality would be entitled to, in a year that will continue to be very difficult for families», highlights the municipality of Aljezur.

This «is an objective budget» and which «reflects the reality of the commitments made over the years», however «the times we live in, of uncertainty, lead us to be more careful and attentive, as the worsening situation of the pandemic, and consequently the socio-economic situation, may condition the next year even more».

Matters such as the fight against Covid-19 and its consequences on people's lives and on the county's economy "will continue to be one of the priorities. We will continue to review working methods, as well as change teams, investments in workplaces in order to create safety conditions for everyone, as well as the provision of personal protective equipment for each of the municipality's workers».

The City Council will continue to have Santa Casa da Misericórdia, Casa da Criança do Rogil and the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Aljezur as «privileged partners», which «will provide more and better response, in terms of safety, health, assistance, childhood and old age”.

“We will continue to collaborate with these institutions for the purchase of personal protective equipment and disinfection products, thus ensuring that professionals in these institutions do not lack this equipment”, highlights the municipality.

The support program, called “Aljezur – Municipality Presente”, will be reformulated, deserving an evaluation and alterations, in the face of new realities and situations.

The Aljezur City Council will continue to be committed to finding solutions and monitoring other situations, namely the project for the new GNR Headquarters, the deactivation of the Rogil WWTP and the Carrascalinho sewage, the Pontão do Arieiro, the project for the Rîbat de Arrifana, as well as monitoring the situation of “Health in our Municipality”, in terms of medical personnel.

In the field of Education, the municipality foresees “the start of negotiations so that the municipality will have an educational offer of secondary education”. The intention has already been communicated to the Directorate-General for School Establishments (DGEstE) of the Algarve, which “was well received and will involve a period of negotiations and planning with the necessary revision of the Educational Charter”. This planning document may also provide for «the expansion of the capacity of the current educational offers, since the increase in the school population may begin to put constraints on the current capacity of the county's educational network».

The municipality also put on the agenda again, together with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing and Infrastructures of Portugal, so that “it is possible to find and work towards the realization of a “Variante de Aljezur” and a solution for the village, in more and better car circulation, pedestrian circulation and mobility and more parking'.

«We will continue to demand that the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Action promote the long-awaited review of the plans, which are the most important for the region, such as the Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina Natural Park Plan and the Coastal Land Management Plan. ».

«We will be attentive and intervening in the situation of the Perimeter of Irrigation do Mira, with the Ministry of Agriculture, so that rules can be created in order to make agricultural activity compatible with tourist activity and with the preservation of natural and environmental resources».

The City Council will give special importance, during the next year, to the Local Housing Strategy, which is one of the priorities, as well as the conclusion of the projects for the Aljezur Market, as well as for the Business Center and Paços do Concelho, the Circuit Cultural and Environmental of Odeceixe, the intervention project of two walls in the old area of Aljezur, as well as the infrastructures to finish the Barrada Allotment.

The review of the PDM will also move forward at the beginning of this year.

As for the challenges for the future of Aljezur, as for Vale da Telha, a team is working to respond to the opinions of the various entities, so that they can be submitted to the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission. As for the Terras do Infante Intermunicipal Strategic Plan, it will continue to be carried out.

«Efforts will continue to be made, with the creation of another first intervention team, in partnership with the Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Aljezur, in order to improve the response capacity in terms of rescue and fire fighting».

With regard to Parish Councils, the municipality will continue «to deepen partnerships, at various levels, with the various execution agreements, delegation of powers and financial support, where we will have to renegotiate with the parishes the new competences, however we will have available about of 65 thousand euros for each parish, in financial support, for works, purchases of equipment or shares.

Although the pandemic has conditioned the execution of the municipality's budget for 2021, "the challenge for this year will be to be able to carry out the works provided for in this 2020 community framework, and prepare the next 2030 community framework, as well as the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR)". », concludes the municipality of Aljezur.
