Minimum wage rises to 705 euros from 1st January

Decision taken after listening to the social partners

The minimum wage (that is, the Guaranteed Minimum Monthly Retribution RMMG) will rise from the current 665 to 705 euros a month from January 1st, the Government decided in the Council of Ministers this Thursday, December 2nd.

This increase, taking into account «the financial weight that it represents in the current economic situation for companies, will be accompanied by «an exceptional measure of attribution to employers of a pecuniary subsidy corresponding to a fixed amount per worker who receives the RMMG, when gathered the allocation conditions provided for in this decree-law”, stresses the Government in the statement of the Council of Ministers.

The Government added that "the Social Partners with a seat on the Permanent Commission for Social Dialogue were heard", but that the measure advances because it is important "in promoting more dignified work and economic growth".

"The XXII Government included in its Program the objective of deepening, within the framework of negotiation in terms of social agreement, the trajectory of real updating of the national minimum wage, in a phased, predictable and sustained manner, to reach 750 euros in 2023, he stresses the communiqué of the Council of Ministers.

«Although the COVID-19 disease pandemic has significantly changed the economic and social context, this commitment was maintained, contributing to the recovery of labor income and to improving the purchasing power of workers. Between 2015 and 2021, the RMMG increased by 32%, from 505 to 665 euros», he adds.
