Festival brought sacred music to churches in Lagoa with packed concerts

Initiative took place during the Sundays of October and November

The first edition of the Festival of Sacred Music of Lagoa, which took place between October and November, had «a remarkable participation by the public, which filled the capacity of the churches where these concerts took place, with the musicians receiving countless praise and constant ovations» . 

Organized by Ideias do Levante and the municipality, the Festival had «an online presentation and several in-person concerts during the month of October and continued, during the month of November, with four more musical shows.

On the 7th of November, at the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, in Ferragudo, “The Virtuosity and its facets” was presented by Nestor Díaz (trombone) and Jeferson de Mello (piano), on the 14th, at the Church of São Tiago, in Estômbar, hosted the show “Trindade”, performed by Michele Tomaz (soprano), Luísa Vaz Pinto (mezzosoprano) and Francisco Brazão (baritone).

On the 21st, the chapel of Centro Cultural Convento S. José, in Lagoa, hosted the show “Divine Celebration”, with the interpretation of Rebecca Christopherson (violin) and Svetlana Bakushina (piano), having presented a program with works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, César Franck, Jean-Baptiste Faure, Johann Sebastian Bach and Franz Schubert.

This Sunday, the 28th, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação, in Carvoeiro, hosted the last concert of this first edition: “Canticum sacrum”, performed by Carla Pontes (soprano), Francisco Brazão (baritone) and Cristiana Silva (piano), bringing together several duets by Pergolesi, Bach and Handel and African American spiritual themes.

This first edition was supported by the municipality of Lagoa, the municipality's Parish Councils, the Diocese of the Algarve, parishes in the municipality and Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lagoa.
