A CDU delegation met last Thursday, 23 December, with Álvaro Araújo, Mayor of Vila Real de Santo António (VRSA), with the Municipal Budget as the subject.

According to the party, at this meeting, the CDU “expressed its concern and identified some of the problems to which the autarchy must respond and whose resolution must be included in the next Municipal Budget.

Among these problems identified by the party is «the enhancement of the rights of workers in the municipality, requiring the elimination of precarious situations and the application of the supplement of hardship and unhealthy conditions in its entirety», as well as «the need to understand which is going to happen. to be the direction of the municipality, in terms of services that were privatized and ruinous contracts that harm the municipality, such as, for example, paid parking».

The CDU considers that "there must be an alternative policy and options must be taken that free the council from the deals that have been built over the years."

Another aspect highlighted by the party at the meeting is related to the powers and duties that will be transferred in full to the City Council next year. «The CDU considers that this option «will bring new problems both for the functioning of public services and for the municipality itself. A Chamber like that of VRSA, which is no longer able to meet its obligations today, will tend to face greater difficulties in the future».

– Other "problems" pointed out by the CDU relate to "the need to put an end to the sale of public and municipal assets to waste" or "respect for workers' rights, without discrimination, and the enhancement of their working conditions and of their careers”, something that for the party “are a decisive issue in the municipal administration”.

Also the "lack of personnel in various sectors, particularly in operational services and poor health and safety conditions are some of the problems that need to be resolved", the "need for measures to guarantee support for the associative and popular movement, as well as the promotion of sport and culture should be reflected in the Budget” or the “need for a policy of public investment in equipment and infrastructure that does not exist” are other “problems” highlighted by the party.
