BE candidates for the Legislatures met with the Oncological Association of the Algarve

Meeting served to debate the problems that the region is going through in the screening and early diagnosis of cancer

The Left Block (BE) candidacy for the circle of Faro The Legislative Assembly met last Friday, December 17th, with the Oncological Association of the Algarve, where the problems faced by the region in screening and early diagnosis of cancer and future challenges were debated.

The AOA, a pioneer in breast cancer screening in the Algarve, through its mobile unit that covers the entire region and allows for the carrying out of around 19 treatments to 700 patients, «is currently experiencing difficulty in accessing support programs and sees the reduction in investment capacity as an added difficulty factor in the fight against cancer in the region», says the Left Block.

Thus, the AOA and the BE «look with apprehension at the emptying that is witnessed in the National Health Service (NHS) of doctors and other health professionals, as well as the reduction in face-to-face consultations at the Health Centers and the loss of quality of the service provided in the region'.

The BE also defended, during the meeting, «the need to provide hospitals with autonomy in hiring professionals» and to «open vacancies in exclusivity as the only way to attract professionals to the NHS».

Blocists also criticized "the underfunding of health in the Algarve and the country", namely "in terms of the necessary investments in the NHS, of which the hospitals in Faro and Portimão and the promise of a Central Hospital in the Algarve».
