Play “Silêncio e Tanta Gente” gives voice to victims of human trafficking at Teatro Lethes in Faro

Theater play will be presented on December 3rd

“Silêncio e Tanta Gente”, a play that “gives a voice to victims of human trafficking, breaking silences about slavery in modern times”, will be presented on December 3, at 21 pm, at Teatro Lethes, in Faro.

The play is produced by Boutique da Cultura, in Lisbon, written by Sandra Benfica, from the Democratic Movement of Women, and staged by João Borges de Oliveira, with the objective of «confronting the audience with realities that television does not show or before which we wear the skin of indifference», says the Women's Democratic Movement (MDM), promoter of the initiative.

«People who, in search of a better life, are betrayed and transformed into merchandise, sold, bought, offered, exchanged. Deprived of freedom, they are subjected to atrocious violence and torture».

During the show «we get to know four real stories, those of Makahiya, Tikirit, Marco and Palbo, which come to life in characters played by Joana Tavares, Rita Dias, Tiago de Almeida and João Borges de Oliveira».

Trafficking in human beings is «the slavery of “modern” times, the result of organized criminal networks, where no means are sought to reap victims, regardless of their age. Tikirit, played by actress Rita Dias», explains MDM.

"Lives that trafficking stole", brought to the stage in a minimalist setting, "filled only by the dreams, anxieties and the compromised future of the victims".

“A heart cannot be sewn with a needle and a thread”, laments one of the characters. There was an adaptation, but the stories are real and violent. “It's a harsh reality”, concludes the movement.

Tickets have a joint price of three euros and can be purchased or booked through the Teatro Lethes ticket office (Tuesday to Friday, from 14 pm to 00 pm, or on show days, from 18 pm to 00 pm and from 14 pm to 18 pm) , as well as by calling 00 20 00, at the same time, or via the BOL.
