The 45-year-old GNR soldier who was, this Saturday, at the end of the afternoon, involved in an accident, at the Algarve International Autodrome, died, the Minister of Internal Affairs has just confirmed, in a statement sent to the newsrooms.

Eduardo Cabrita says that “it was with deep regret that I learned of the death of First Sergeant João Fernandes, 45, of the Transit Detachment of Faro of the Guarda Nacional Republicana, victim of a road accident on duty in the area of ​​the Autodromo Internacional de Portimão, which resulted in a serious injury».

The minister, "at this tragic moment" on behalf of himself and the Government, addresses his "most heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and the National Republican Guard, to whom I take this opportunity to praise the permanent effort and professionalism of his military personnel to ensure the security of populations'.
