Loulé Hosts Annual European Museum Network Conference in 2022

It is only the second time that this meeting has been held in Portugal

Loulé will host the NEMO – Network of European Museums Organizations annual conference next year. The event, which takes place between 13 and 15 November 2022, will bring NEMO members, museums and professionals linked to the museum sector and cultural heritage from across Europe to the city of Loulé.

The conference, which will be organized in collaboration with the Municipal Museum of Loulé and the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage, will feature panels on relevant topics and «constituting an opportunity to share for the participating museums, visits to the territory and much more. more», highlights the Chamber of Loulé.

The theme of the 2022 conference will be announced in the spring, but, at the moment, «expectations with the municipal officials of Loulé are high», adds the municipality.

NEMO, a network of museums in Europe, was founded in 1992 as an independent network of national museum organizations representing the museum community of Council of Europe member states. Together, NEMO members represent more than 30.000 museums in 40 European countries.

This entity aims to promote its work and value to policy makers, providing museums with training, information, networking and opportunities for collaboration.

Their role, explains the Loulé Council, "is based on the four values around which museums work: social, educational, economic and heritage values."

This will be the second time that Portugal has hosted this conference, after Lisbon in 2000 was the stage for this initiative. The choice of the venue for the event is made in advance, upon the sending of reception intentions by the members, since every year this conference is hosted in a different country.
