Loulé: Nave do Barão celebrates São Martinho with acorn and wine

Initiatives will take place on the 7th of November in Nave do Barão, Salir (Loulé)

São Martinho will be celebrated in Nave do Barão, in the parish of Salir (Loulé), on the 7th of November, «in a moment of celebration» in which the anniversary of the Association “Os Barões” will be celebrated and in which «they will go revive gastronomic traditions of this territory».

If São Martinho is associated with roasted chestnuts and wine, in the Algarve's barrocal, chestnuts are sometimes replaced by acorns, a fruit that can be harvested in this territory, unlike chestnuts that come from cooler and more humid areas (Central and North of Portugal).

In Nave do Barão, a town in the parish of Salir, known for its ancient wine-producing tradition, the anniversary party of the “Os Barões” Association is a good pretext for «to combine the wine, the acorn that is picked in the Nave, an interpretive walk in the Mediterranean landscape, with activities associated with the acorn, and its tasting with a glass of wine», says the municipality of Loulé.

The meeting is scheduled for 9:45 am, at the association's headquarters, where an “acorn cafe” begins. Then there is a walking route of about four kilometers, which will lead participants through the Mediterranean landscape. It will be «an immersion in the culture of vines and wine, but it will also have a time dedicated to picking the acorn», stresses the municipality.

Back at the association, a lunch with some mountain delicacies is planned (reservation required) and, for “dessert”, small workshops will take place on making biscuits and pasta and preparing acorn liqueurs.

At 17:00 pm, the community party will begin as time to socialize and participate in the São Martinho tasting will not be lacking with acorns and wine.

This is an initiative with great cultural and touristic value, in a unique meeting place, located in the heart of the aspiring Geopark Algarvensis.

On the other hand, it is also part of the project that the municipality of Loulé is developing, seeking to «show the tourist potential of activities around the territory's products and resources, allied to the dynamics of a resilient community that keeps its identity alive. ».

The project VITALIZAR – Territory Products and Resources, a project to value and promote local products, gastronomy, tradition and art is financed by CRESC ALGARVE 2020, framed in PADRE – Action Plan for the Development of Endogenous Resources.
