Exhibition, music and dance celebrate Educating Cities day in Albufeira

The exhibition will have a traveling version, which will go to all parishes

An exhibition on the county's history, the delivery of the Educational Letter to representatives of various cultural associations in the county, music and dance are part of the program to commemorate the International Day of Educating Cities of Albufeira Council, which starts on Sunday, the 27th of November, and lasts until December 24th.

The aim of the municipality is to highlight its commitment "with the issue of education, namely with regard to its concern with issues relating to the identity and cultural inclusion of all people living in the municipality".

On the 27th, the program is launched with a ceremony to take place in the extension room of the Albufeira Historical Archive, where the Educating Cities Manifesto will be read and the Educational Letter will be delivered to representatives of various cultural associations in the municipality.

The session will also feature music and dance from different countries, which will be guaranteed by a Gospel choir, by the Associação de Capoeiragem do Sul – Muzenza Algarve and by a Ukrainian choir.

«The program also counts with the participation of Rui Carvalho, president of the jury of the Photographic Marathon “Images between Cultures”, who will talk about the importance of photography as a historical record. This is followed by the delivery of the prizes for the Photographic Marathon by the Consul General of Guinea Bissau in Portugal, Josefia Kosta», according to the City Council of Albufeira.

The program on the 27th ends with the inauguration of the Street Exhibition “Albufeira: past and present, everyone's belonging”, on the Esplanada Dr. Frutuoso da Silva.

This is a photographic exhibition «which aims to portray the construction of the collective identity of Albufeira, from the fishing village of yesteryear to the arrival of the first tourists, passing through today, where cosmopolitanism and the multicultural experience of the streets reflect the welcoming essence of a municipality, where everyone finds a place to stay».

This exhibition will have a traveling version, which will pass through all parishes. From the 29th of November to the 3rd of December, it can be seen in the old building of the Parish Council of Olhos de Água, while from the 6th to the 10th of December it will be on display in the building of the Sociedade Musical e Recreio Popular de Paderne.

This is followed by passages at the Ferreiras Parish Council building (13th to 17th December) and at Guia Municipal Market (20th to 24th December).

«Between the 29th of November and the 3rd of December, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, various activities are planned in the cultural extension room of the Historical Archive, namely the demonstration of Tapestry in Manual Loom (Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Albufeira), the Art of Coser Networks (Association of Fishing Professionals), Old Photography Studio (Albufeira Historical Archive), Talegos Contracting and Sewing (artisans from the Education Division of the Municipality of Albufeira), Handmade Binding (Historical Archive), Construction of Cane Toys ( artisan Ana Barradas) and Construction of Berimbau (Muzenza Association)».

Exceptionally, activities on December 1st will take place between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm and from 14:00 pm to 17:00 pm.
