"Health, solidarity, economic development, means of communication and urban renewal, education, culture and sport, environment, and civil protection and security" are the "seven priority areas for the project that we are going to implement in the next quadrennium", said Vítor Guerreiro, who took office this Friday, October 15th, as mayor of São Brás de Alportel.

Aware of the «needs and difficulties of São Brasenses», but also «of the potential of our territory and of our community», Vítor Guerreiro took to the stage of the São Brás Cineteatro to assure those present at the ceremony for the installation of the municipal bodies that he will « continue the work that we have been developing».

The mayor stressed that "in recent years, we have made many projects and investments in the most diverse areas of intervention", but the world in constant change "imposes on us, with each new day, new challenges and new demands".

Vítor Guerreiro wants São Brás de Alportel to be «a positive, attractive territory, where it is good to live, invest and visit», being «sustainable development and quality of life for our population, two of the objectives for the mandate that is beginning ».

For the next quadrennium, 2021-2025, Vítor Guerreiro will have seven priority areas for the project he wants to accomplish.

«The area of health it is vital”, said the mayor, assuring that “we are going to defend better health care for all”, demanding the assignment of a family doctor for all São Brasenses.

«We are going to create new response equipment, which are essential, and for which we have already made land available to carry them out», such as the creation of a Continued Care Unit and a new Health Center in São Brás.

As regards solidarity, the second area highlighted by Vítor Guerreiro, promised to “fight poverty and foster social cohesion, as in São Brás we will not allow anyone to go hungry or lack adequate housing”.

A housing "It is another challenge and we are defining the Local Housing Strategy, so that we can soon make affordable housing available to people in need" and, through the implementation of various measures and actions, "we will create more answers for families, from early childhood to old age,” he added.

Also in the area of economic development, “We will continue to stimulate the development of the local economy, supporting entrepreneurship and innovation, creating new spaces for the establishment of companies and entrepreneurs and supporting even more in tourism”.

As communication routes and urban renewal «they are essential for the community that we want to continue to build», highlighted the newly appointed mayor.

"We will continue to build accessibility for all and enhance public space", stressed the mayor, also saying that he will "continue to establish partnerships so that the requalification of the EN2 connection to Via do Infante will soon become a reality. as the connection of the Business Park of São Brás to Olhão, through the Pereiro site».

As regards education, culture and sport, «essential for a developed society», Vítor Guerreiro wants to continue «quality education for our children, modernizing the school park with technological resources». New sports facilities will also be created and it will “continue to value our heritage, our history and our culture”.

No environment, "We have to contribute to mitigating climate change, implementing a set of measures and actions to combat this problem." The municipality will "invest in environmental protection, expand the sanitation network, enhance and preserve our mountains and forests and invest in renewable energies."

Last but not least, «a Civil Protection is the seventh area of ​​our priorities", having the mayor promised to "continue to invest in the prevention of disasters, joining efforts to ensure more security for the entire population".

At the end of his speech, Vítor Guerreiro highlighted that this mandate “brings us great challenges” and the transfer of powers from the State to local authorities “is one of them”. Therefore, he argued, it is necessary to "negotiate and consolidate the process in order to guarantee the necessary resources so that there is an effective improvement in the services provided to our citizens."

The ceremony, marked by musical moments by pianist António Pinto, from the Conservatório d'Artes of São Brás de Alportel, began with the swearing in of those elected to the City Council and the Municipal Assembly.

The Socialist Party, in addition to Vítor Guerreiro, elected two more councilors, Marlene Guerreiro and Acácio Martins, thus guaranteeing a majority in the municipal executive, while the PSD elected two other councilors, Bruno Costa and Sílvia Revés.

For the Municipal Assembly, of the 15 elected members, nine are socialists, to which is added the president of the Parish Council of São Brás de Alportel, also PS. The PSD has five elements and the CDU also has a municipal deputy.

After the signatures by the elected representatives, it was time for the first meeting of the Municipal Assembly. In a proposal by AM's president, Ulisses Brito, the election took place in a “voting by list” mode, in which those elected had to decide whether they agreed or not. After gathering the votes, the list ended up winning with nine “agree” votes, five blanks and one “disagree”.

Thus, Ulisses Brito was once again elected president of the Municipal Assembly, accompanied at the table by Josélia Gonçalves, as 1st secretary, and João Grenhas, as 2nd secretary, all from the PS.

In his final speech, Ulisses Brito began by highlighting the fact that «the Socialist Party, in the Algarve, had the greatest electoral victory in São Brás de Alportel», despite the «abstention problem, which had a slightly higher level in the municipality. , in relation to the last municipal elections'.

The mayor also mentioned that, with the passage of Municipal Assemblies to digital mode, «São Brasenses can watch in the comfort of their homes and understand what AM does, what the municipality's projects are, and be part of municipal life as citizens of São Brás de Alportel».

“As members of the Municipal Assembly, we are here to continue to provide support, but also to criticize the executive's projects and thus continue to bring to fruition what has been the development of São Brás”, concluded Ulisses Brito.
