“Roadart – Design in Movement” celebrates the success of the 1st edition with a fashion show in Portimão

This Sunday, October 24th, the city of Portimão will receive a parade, scheduled for 17 pm, and an exhibition to celebrate the success of the 00st edition of the project Roadart – Design in Movement, which has been taking place since June and has been promote the vast and rich Portuguese heritage through the decoration of tourist entertainment vehicles that have been circulating throughout the Algarve region.

Therefore, the 10 vehicles decorated within the scope of the project will be present, as well as representatives of the tourist animation companies integrated in the project and the designers responsible for the artistic creations.

Portimão was the municipality chosen not only to host the second Roadart parade, but also to be the stage for the third exhibition and the delivery of prizes to the winners of this project's first edition.

The parade, scheduled to start at 17 pm, will travel through the city's streets between Avenida Tomás Cabreira and the Zona Ribeirinha de Alvor. This last location will be the stage for the exhibition, which can be visited from 00:17 pm to 30:19 pm in the square between the fishermen's huts and the Restinga restaurant.

There will also be the possibility to meet the designers, as well as learn more about the inspiration behind each of the artistic creations.

«From Lisbon to our fellow Algarveans, we highlight the four designers with the most voted works on social networks – winning first prize with the work “Algarve, a Force of Nature”, applied in a Ford van provided by the company Portitours, we have Fernando Madeira, better known as “Phermad”», refers the organization.

In second place «we have the designer Patrícia Rodrigues with her work “Portuguese Expressions Ha Many” applied in a Jeep Land Rover Defender also donated by the company Porttours».

In an honorable third place «we have the graffiti Albufeirense ASUR with her work “Algarve Algarvio” applied in a Volkswagen Pão-de-Forma van provided by the company Happy Van” and finally, in fourth place, the artist Gorete Matias “with her creation “Hora de Viajar” applied in a tuk -tuk provided by the company Tuk Tuk Andrade», explains Roadart.

The event will also be marked by the delivery of four award certificates to the designers whose works were the most voted in a competition held on the project's social networks, namely Fernando Madeira “Phermad”, Patrícia Rodrigues, ASUR and Gorete Matias. This ceremony is scheduled for 19:00.

The exhibition and parade will be carried out in line with all the recommendations of the General Directorate of Health (DGS), so all indications will be complied with.

With this project came «the possibility of establishing a connection and closer collaborative relationship between the various local agents» in which, «much more than promoting the Portuguese identity and culture among local populations», the Roadart aims to « the promotion of local and national culture among all those who visit the region, not only in times of greater movement, but especially in the months when tourist activity begins to decline».

"It was possible to involve a great diversity of audiences, which enabled the dissemination of the project's concept and objective in a broad and creative way, both digitally and physically".

Given the success of this edition, a 2nd edition of the Roadart project is being planned, whose objective is «the territorial expansion beyond the borders of the Algarve», emphasizes the organization.

«It is also intended to extend the scope of the project to other artistic expressions and forms of urban art and, therefore, for the future, three areas of action are identified, which are the continuity of the project currently in force, through the decoration of vehicles with works of designers, based on national, regional and local heritage, the survey of the portfolio of various artists and works of urban art visible in various municipalities, with a view to creating content associated with them and, finally, the elaboration of a strategic plan for the online dissemination and promotion of activities, events and tours associated with the visual arts».

The project “Roadart – Design in Movement” is part of the application to the Guarantor Culture Program by Geoflicks, with support from COMPETE 2020, PORTUGAL 2020 and the European Fund for Regional Development.
