«Let's work together, let's all build a better Monchique!» These are the words of the new mayor of Monchique, socialist Paulo Alves, who this Saturday night, the 9th, took office for at least four years in office.

The new mayor had barely sat down in the chair of the mayor and was already saying: “we face this commitment with the intention of seeing it renewed in 2025”.

Adding that, «from now on I consider myself president of all the men and women of this council», Paulo Alves admitted: «I know that I don't expect any facilities».

With Paulo Alves, president of the Chamber, two socialist councilors – Humberto Sério and Helena Martiniano – took office, as well as Bruno Estremores, from the PSD, and José Chaparro, an independent elected by the CDS.

In his testimony passing speech, former president Rui André, with some emotion, pointed out that his daughter “Leonor, who was born after I took office [in 2009], will finally be able to spend a whole day with me”.

In a very long ceremony, in which members of all political forces with seats in the Chamber and in the Municipal Assembly spoke, the new table of the latter organ was also installed. As president, Carlos Almeida (PS) remained, who will have Maria Fernanda Alves (PS) as 1st secretary and Sílvia Silva as 2nd secretary.
