Motorhome and wild camping inspection results in 46 news reports

The Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina was one of the classified areas where the inspection promoted by ICNF took place

46 news reports were raised this weekend during “Operation Vacances”, a nationwide inspection aimed at motorhome and wild camping, which took place in classified areas in 25 municipalities across the country.

Promoted by the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF), the operation involved 50 Nature Watchers and 22 vehicles, resulting in the survey of 46 news reports, 40 for motorhomes in an improper location and six for wild camping, in a total of 89 inspection actions.

The operation took place in classified areas, namely the Natural Parks of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, North Coast, Tejo Internacional, Serra da Estrela, Sintra-Cascais, Arrábida, Serra de Aire and Candeeiros, also including the Natural Reserves of Lagoas de Santo André and Sancha, Dunes of São Jacinto, Malcata, the Protected Landscape of the Fossil Cliff of Costa da Caparica and the Special Conservation Areas of the Dunes of Mira and Ria de Aveiro, covering a total of 25 municipalities.

“The main objective of the action was to reduce the practice of motorhomes and camping outside the places designated for this purpose”, explains the ICNF in a press release.

Simultaneously, it aimed to «mitigate the impacts arising on the landscape, habitats and species, in addition to ensuring that the rules of land use planning are respected in these classified spaces».

ICNF also sought to "sensitize caravanists and campers to adopt a civic attitude and respect for environmental and landscape values".
