The Sustainable Development Goals

Sustainable development is at the heart of the European project, with the various EU Treaties recognizing the importance of jointly addressing the economic, social and environmental dimensions, advocating a development model that meets present needs without compromising those of future generations .

The EU response to the internal implementation of the 2030 Agenda includes two strands of work. The first is to fully integrate development objectives into the Commission's priorities within the framework of European policies. On 22 November 2016 the Commission issued the Communication "Next steps for a sustainable European future".

Approved at the United Nations Summit on September 25, 2015, the resolution Transforming our world: Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, entered into force in 2016, constituting one of the fundamental bases for the elaboration of the Algarve 2030 Strategy and the work developed by CCDR in the Algarve Region.

Consisting of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets to be achieved by 2030 by all 193 countries, it is anchored in a battery with more than 200 indicators that allow monitoring the respective progress and sustaining the annual reports. national, European and international level.

European Week of Regions and Cities

The European Week of Regions and Cities is the biggest annual Brussels-based event dedicated to cohesion policy. It has grown to become a unique platform for communication and networking, bringing together regions and cities from across Europe, including politicians, administrators, experts and academics. Over the past 18 years, it has done much to promote policy learning and the exchange of good practice.

Under the title “Together for recovery”, the 2021 program focuses on supporting European citizens and their local communities, in order to provide reflection, debate, exchange of good practices and ideas, on four main themes : Cohesion, Green transition, Digital transition and Citizen engagement.

In this regard, the new cohesion policy and the new generation of EU programs for 2021-2027, as well as the EU's financial instruments to tackle the COVID-19 crisis, will be in the spotlight at the 2021 event. A # EURegionsWeek will also serve as a platform to promote the ongoing debate on democracy and citizen engagement on the future of Europe.
