Over six days, FIC.A – planned for the Palace and Gardens of Marquês de Pombal – intends to assume itself as a national and world example of the celebration of science and knowledge with society, with a pioneering program, full of of unique experiences in the fields of science, technology, culture and art.

Loulé, Silves and Albufeira will take the opportunity to publicize the territory's candidacy of the aspiring Geoparque Algarvensis to UNESCO, with the exhibition “Let's be Geoparque Algarvensis” in the Palácio Gardens, during the Festival. In the same place will be the installation “Montante”, by Vasco Nascimento, which has already been on display in Penina, under the Geopalcos programme.

The participation of the three councils also includes a Round Table in the main auditorium of FIC.A, on 16 October, between 15:00 pm and 17:00 pm, with the title “GeoPalcos Arte.Ciência.Natureza: (im)probable connections in the Algarve's territory” , with Cristina Veiga-Pires, scientific director of the aspiring Geoparque Algarvensis, Dália Paulo, general coordinator of the Municipality of Loulé, three artists participating in the GeoPalcos – Miguel Cheta, Vanessa Barragão and Helena Madeira and a member of the local community (Penina), Manoli Ortiz.

In its debut edition, FIC.A will bring together more than 100 academic, scientific, technological, diplomatic, governmental and non-governmental entities.

The program already has more than 700 activities – debates, lectures, exhibitions, shows, concerts, workshops, among other formats – and has more than 100 speakers from over 20 countries.

During the weekend, in Oeiras, events will take place specially designed for families, including an innovative and relevant cultural program, inspired by science.

As part of the UNESCO World Geopark candidacy, the three municipalities have already been developing work on the ground that links art, science and nature, creating, for example, crossover of artists based in this territory, mediation activities with the school public, installations and links between artists and local communities, as well as thematic science conferences, including an installation and performance 230 meters deep, at the Sal-gema mine in Loulé.

The program, entitled “GeoPalcos Arte.Ciência.Natureza”, began on May 29 of this year.

The project arose from an inter-municipal application, led by AMAL, bringing together the 16 Algarve municipalities and the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, which resulted in the “Bezaranha – Cultural Program in Network”, a program that partially ensures the financing of GeoPalcos Arte.Ciência. Nature, using the Algarve Regional Operational Program (CRESC2020).
