Algarvians guarantee six champion titles in the Portuguese Championship of laser

Last weekend

Six national champions, four individual and two mixed, as well as several podiums, made the Algarve clubs the most medaled, in the last edition of the Portugal Juniors and Absolute 2021 Championship, which took place between the 22nd and 24th, in Portimão.

In class ILCA 6 (radial laser), Leonor Dutra, from the Clube Naval de Faro (GCNF), won this weekend three-time champion of Portugal in Junior Women, while Daniela Miranda, athlete of the Naval Association of Guadiana became Champion of Portugal Absolute Women.

In junior males, also in radial laser, João Pontes, from GCNF, became national runner-up, while his teammates Guilherme Cavaco and Miguel Sancho secured, respectively, 3rd and 5th place in the same class, in males .

Also in class ILCA 4 (laser 4,7), there was an Algarvean champion, in this case, Mara António, from Clube Naval de Portimão (CNP).

In class 420, Manuel Fortunato and Marta Fortunado, athletes from Clube de Vela de Lagos, secured the title of champions of Portugal Misto Absolute.

In juniors, the title of Champions of Mixed Portugal also came to the Algarve, in this case to Beatriz Cintra and Filipe Lopes, athletes from Clube Náutico de Tavira.

In the ILCA 7 class, Eduardo Marques, an athlete from the Capable Planet Clube Náutico de Vilamoura, secured the title of vice-champion of Portugal Absolute.

Another highlight was the Hansa class in which João Pinto, from Clube Naval de Portimão, was crowned champion of Portugal and Guilherme Ribeiro, from the Yacht Clube da Marina de Portimão, was runner-up.

«The results now obtained are a source of great pride for Algarvian sailing and are proof of the serious work that these young athletes, their coaches, their clubs and their respective leaders, develop daily, always thinking of the best for Algarve and national sailing» , summarizes the Regional Association of Vela do Sul, in a press release.

The same entity congratulates «all the Algarve sailors and clubs present in these championships, especially the winners of each class and category, wishing the best sporting success, either individual or collective, for the sporting season that is now beginning».

 

 

Who also reacted to the results obtained in these championships was the Ginásio Clube Naval de Faro which, more than individual achievements, highlighted the collective results, since the club had «four sailors in the top 10 of the most competitive fleet in Portugal».

In addition to the athletes already mentioned, the Gym also highlights Rocco Wright, who got the 8th place in the general classification, Diogo Faustino, who was in 16th, and Artur Bruno, who secured the 21st place.

“In the ILCA 4 class, João Ferreira was 22nd, Sienna Wright 26th and Raquel Guerreiro 31st,” added GCNF.

The Naval Club Gym Faro «in this way he adds a diversity of titles conquered, from regional to World Championships, without forgetting the entry in the High Competition programs, making this his best sporting season».
