Vila do Bispo now has 24 more people qualified to intervene in cases of cardiopulmonary arrest on the public road, following a training in Basic Life Support and Automatic External Defibrillation, which took place between the 3rd and 7th of September.

This action, which involved employees from the City Council, Santa Casa de Misericórdia, businessmen and soldiers from the GNR, was carried out as part of a project to place automatic external defibrillators (DAE) in the municipality of Vila do Bispo.

In addition to this training, the first phase of the project also includes the installation of «two booths on the public road, one in the parishes of Vila do Bispo and Raposeira, in front of the Cultural Center, and another in the parish of Sagres, on Avenida Comandante Matoso, which they will be equipped with an AED», according to the City Council of Vila do Bispo.

At the moment, there are 74 people qualified to use these equipments, in Vila do Bispo, "of which 50 are Volunteer Firefighters".

"AEDs are portable electronic devices that, in situations of cardiorespiratory arrest, analyze the heart rhythm and, in the indicated situations, apply an electric shock in order to resume a normal cardiac cycle and thus prevent the victim's death", states the Vila do Bispo Chamber.
