PAN Faro wants to "give the streets back to the people" and bets on bicycles

Today marks the European Car Free Day

«Returning the streets to the people», making Faro “a large secure backyard, where we can move safely”. The European Car Free Day is marked this Wednesday, September 22, and the PAN of the Algarve capital was meeting with the movement “Faro to Pedal”.

This was an “opportunity to think together about the challenges associated with the climate emergency and the necessary paradigm shift with regard to mobility”, says the PAN.

The political party argues that «it is essential to create conditions so that more and more people can adhere to the principles of smooth and active mobility in their lives and for this to become a “new normal” of mobility in Faro».

The PAN says that it wanted to “listen to those who use a bicycle every day, to know how best to make this transition, from mobility predominantly associated with the individual car to another, increasingly focused on walking, cycling or transport. public'.

Elza Cunha, the PAN candidate for the Chamber of Faro, considers «that it is necessary to give the streets back to the people, to Faro a large secure backyard, where we can move safely with our children, grandchildren and family, taking advantage of the natural conditions of the municipality for cycling, not just for leisure, but increasingly for daily tasks: home- school, home-work, services and commerce».

“In addition to all the benefits for individual and public health and the environment, this option could represent savings of hundreds of euros for families in Faro, considering the costs associated with maintaining one or more cars and the price of fuel”, he adds.

The PAN therefore defends the increase in the number of cycle paths in the city's central axes, ensuring their continuity and safety, in particular in road crossings and circulation at roundabouts, as well as the installation of more parking spaces, including covered structures.
