LAC begins this Saturday to celebrate its 25 years of arts and creativity in the former prison in Lagos

Exhibition of the collection and session with Xana, talking about "The LAC and the Plastic Arts", mark the opening of the celebrations, on Saturday

And, suddenly, 25 years have passed – in fact, 26… – since the former Lagos Prison was transformed into the Laboratory of Creative Activities (LAC). To mark this special anniversary, LAC proposes an eclectic program from this current month of September until June of next year.

The program starts this Saturday (11th September), at the headquarters of LAC, with the opening of the Exhibition Acervo LAC I, “where different works by artists who participated in the different projects developed by the association will be on display every month”.

There will also be the Knowledge Program sessions, which will last until the end of October, starting next Saturday, with the artist Xana, talking about «The LAC and the Plastic Arts», continuing, on September 18th, with the architect Frederico Mendes Paula (Heritage), on the 2nd of October, with the art historian and curator João Pinharanda (Lagos and the Arts), and then, on the 16th and 30th of the same month, with themes such as Urban Art and Music, with guests to announce soon. All sessions are scheduled for 18:00.

Nuno Pereira, responsible for the LAC, recalls that the Creative Activities Laboratory "marked, in 2020, 25 years of existence", but the programming "was interrupted by the current pandemic situation". Therefore, what is now intended is to «retake the programming that was conceived in order to reflect the action of the Association and its impacts on communities in general and, more specifically, on artistic communities, as well as on school communities ».

For this, a program was designed that has «two important axes: the promotion and dissemination of the activity of LAC and of artists/projects in residence and their collection, through exhibitions, concerts, online programming», as well as « a Knowledge Program, with the participation of invited experts from various artistic areas».

Attendance at the events will be limited due to current restrictions, so it will be necessary to confirm attendance via email [email protected]

All sessions will also be broadcast live through LAC's facebook page.

LAC – Laboratory of Creative Activities is a Cultural Association, established in 1995, based in the former Cadeia de Lagos. It develops its action in the fields of Creation, through artistic residencies, Programming, through concerts, exhibitions, presentations and lectures, and Audience Training, through workshops for the community in general and for the schools in particular.

It also develops several international projects, such as ART URb – United Artists in Residence, ROOTS and CONTESTED DESIRES.

LAC is a structure financed by the Ministry of Culture/DGArtes and the Municipality of Lagos.
