The president of the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) said yesterday, 25 September, that he believed that the stadiums could be without capacity limitation as of 1 October, after the announcement of a new phase of deconfinement by the Government.

“After the prime minister's recent statements, I have the clear conviction that we will be able to have the stadiums completely full as of October 1st”, said Proença, on the sidelines of the sixth post-graduation in organization and management of professional football and the third postgraduate degree in communication, organized by the LPFP.

On Friday, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) asked the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) to lift the limitations in relation to the capacity of sports venues, with effect already in October.

«In view of the evolution of the fight against the pandemic, in which 85% of the population is being vaccinated and with the survey of containment measures, the FPF asks the DGS to increase the capacity of the public, maintaining the requirement to present the digital certificate », referred the organism.

The public occupancy rate in sports venues is currently 50% of the capacity, after having already been increased from 33% under the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Major sporting events will maintain the need to present a digital certificate of vaccination against Covid-19, according to the decontamination plan unveiled on Thursday by the prime minister.

In the measures presented by António Costa, the presence in major sporting events is one of the situations in which the need to have a digital certificate remains.

"It will be up to the General Directorate of Health to define what it means by major cultural, sporting or corporate events," said the prime minister.

Regarding the capacity of spaces, António Costa did not reveal whether the sports venues are kept at the current 50% capacity.
