“Algarvian” chef Hans Neuner in 50th place on The Best Chef Awards exclusive list

The Portuguese Henrique Sã Pessoa and José Avilez are on the list

Chef Hans Neuner, who exhibits his mastery at the Ocean restaurant, at Vila Vita Parc Resort & Spa, in Alporchinhos (Lagoa), is now in 50th position among the best chefs of the world, according to the awards awarded this week at the Gala of The Best Chef Awards, in Amsterdam, one of the most prestigious events in the gastronomic world. This is a considerable leap from the 69 rating obtained last year.

Living in the Algarve for over thirteen years, the Head Austrian gives wings to his passion for Portuguese cuisine, at the Ocean restaurant, which has two Michelin stars, this year with the menu “Rota das Ilhas” where he rediscovers the cuisine of the islands of the Azores, Madeira and São Tomé and all the influence that brings together the times of the discoveries. This menu is a continuation of the 2020 menu, in which, after a journey from North to South of the country, he worked on the gastronomic richness of various regions of the country and its ingredients.

In these same awards, the Head Portuguese Henrique Sá Pessoa was in 38th place among the 100 best. Sã Pessoa is responsible for the two stars at his restaurant Alma, in Lisbon.

O Head Portuguese has just opened its new Arca restaurant in Amsterdam. In the 2020 edition, Sá Pessoa was not even on the list.

Henrique Sá Pessoa also received the New Entry Award for the best Head developed by The New Chef , award of the category that honors the Head who obtains the highest ranking among all new applicants.

In turn, the Head José Avillez was in 44th place among the 100 best in the world. In the previous edition, the Head responsible for the Belcanto restaurant – with two Michelin stars – had won 70th place.

the title of best Head of the world went to the Spaniard Dabiz Munoz, who is in charge of the DiverXo restaurant, in Madrid, Spain. The best Head of the world went to Ana Rós, from Slovenia, in 7th place in the ranking.

Now in its fifth edition, the The Best Chef Awards celebrate the chefs of talent who create the best dining experiences around the world. By distinguishing people whose experience, passion and determination drive them to succeed, the awards The Best Chef intend, in this way, to inspire the younger generations of chefs.

With the mantra "keep it simple“, Hans Neuner's seasonal menu is technically perfect and accurate, demonstrating an impressive and distinct light touch.
Hans prides itself on its modern, fresh and individual signature cuisine, with a strong focus on fish and seafood from the Atlantic Ocean, fruit, vegetables, meat and wines from the heart of Portugal.

The Austrian chef worked at landmark hotels such as the Carlton, in St. Moritz, the Dorchester, in London, or the Tristan, in Majorca, before joining his mentor, Karlheinz Hauser, in Germany.

Aiming to achieve recognition on his own merit, he came to Vila Vita Parc, as Head Ocean executive. The first star arrived in 2009, the second in 2011, becoming the second restaurant in Portugal to achieve the feat.
