The 6 hectares of the archaeological site of Castelo de Alferce belong, since this Monday, 6th of September, to the Municipality of Monchique, after the purchase deed with the previous owner, Diamantino Augusto, was signed today.

There are 59.120 square meters of land on top of the hill where the ruins of the fortified structure are located, at the site of Portela da Pedra Branca, which, in addition to archaeological remains, also has many cork oaks, some eucalyptus and other trees. The land cost 25 thousand euros, an amount calculated after an official assessment.

The news was given by the mayor of Monchique on his personal Facebook page: «today we wrote the deed of this important land, where we are developing an intervention to study and enhance this archaeological site, which now has everything to move forward ».

The mayor thanks «Mr. Diamantino, former owner who always knew how to put the collective interest above his personal and material interest».

Finishing your post, Rui André underlines that «our municipal archaeologist now has all the conditions to continue the excavations without any future hindrance».

The Purchase and Sale contract had been signed on the 29th of July, on the hill of Castelo de Alferce, as Sul Informação then reported exclusively.

The purchase of a large part of the 9 hectares classified by the Municipality of Monchique creates greater conditions for the realization and deepening of research projects and development of that archaeological site, which is already underway.
