Left Block lost the only councilor it had in an Algarve Chamber

Nationally, BE went from 12 to 4 councilors

In this Sunday's elections, the Left Bloc lost the only councilor it had in a Chamber in the Algarve, that of Portimão. João Vasconcelos, the councilor who was the head of the block list and was not reelected, expressed his "sadness" for the results obtained by the party, at local, regional and even national level.

Admitting that it was a "negative result", João Vasconcelos stressed, in statements to the Sul Informação, that, in Portimão, «despite everything, we still managed to elect four mayors, two for the Municipal Assembly and two for the parishes».

Nationally, the Bloc lost eight of its 12 previous councilors, now totaling just four terms. «The Bloco has always had difficulties in terms of representation in Local Authorities and what happened in Portimão and the Algarve was a mirror of the trend at national level. We will have to analyze why this happens», commented the Blocist deputy elected by the Algarve.

As for the electoral results in Portimão, João Vasconcelos expressed "concern" for the election of a councilor for Chega, saying that he was convinced that it was "a vote not so much for the local candidate, but for Chega at the national level".

The blocist also made a point of underlining the “smashing defeat” of the candidacy of former socialist Luís Carito, supported by the CDS. "Even by the means of campaign involved, it was a resounding defeat."

As for the future, João Vasconcelos guaranteed that the two BE members elected to the Municipal Assembly will continue to do their work, while he, for his part, will now focus more on his duties as a deputy.
