Loulé takes “Filmes com Estrelas” to rural parishes in the county in August

Initiative will go through Boliqueime, Alte, Salir, Ameixial and Querença

Movie "Listen"

“Filmes com Estrelas” will promote outdoor Portuguese-speaking cinema by the parishes of Loulé county, between the 12th and 20th of August, thinking of the population in rural areas where access to cultural activity is more limited, in a partnership between the municipality and the Loulé Film Office.

The poster "is composed exclusively of Portuguese productions made in recent years", and will be presented in five sessions, all starting at 21 pm, taking place "in the public space, outdoors and with free entry", says the municipality from Loulé in a note sent to the newsrooms.

“Filmes com Estrelas” will open this Thursday, August 12, at Largo da Igreja de Boliqueime, with the film “José e Pilar”. The 2010 documentary, by Portuguese director Miguel Gonçalves Mendes, is a co-production between Portugal, Spain and Brazil, and follows for two years the life of the Nobel Prize for Literature, José Saramago, and his partner, Pilar del Rio.

“Snu”, the film to be shown at Fonte Pequena, in Alte, on the 14th, tells “the story of the controversial relationship between Ebba Merete Seidenfaden (or Snu Abecassis), the Dane who came to Portugal and founded the Dom Quixote Publications , and Francisco Sá Carneiro, founder of the PPD-PSD and former prime minister of Portugal».

This production features the interpretations of Inês Castel-Branco and Pedro Almendra in the main roles, in a film co-written and directed by Patrícia Sequeira.

“Gabriel”, a 2019 drama by Nuno Bernardo, will be shown on August 16 at the former primary school in Salir, portraying themes such as immigration, bullying and xenophobia. The film features Igor Regalla as the protagonist.

«After his mother's death, Gabriel Silva leaves Cape Verde and travels to Portugal in search of Valdo, the father he hasn't seen since childhood and who is seriously ill. His aunt and cousin welcome him into their home, in the Olivais district, in Lisbon. Before long, he ends up getting involved with a local gang led by Jorge, owner of the boxing club and responsible for organizing illegal fights», stresses the municipality.

On August 19, the Ameixial primary school will receive the comedy “Ladrões de tuta e half” (2019), by director Hugo Araújo.

«The couple of crooks João and Cristiane (Rui Unas and Leonor Seixas) decide to mount one last coup: to deceive an Ultramar veteran who won €190 million in the lottery. For this, John pretends to be the lost son of the winner. But they are not the only ones».

At the end, on August 20, at Largo da Igreja de Querença, “one of the most popular national productions of recent years will be shown: “Listen”, by the multi-award winning director Ana Rocha de Sousa and co-produced by the Algarve actor Ruben Garcia”.

This 2020 Portuguese drama, which stars Lúcia Moniz and Sophia Myles, «is based on real facts, addressing the drama of a Portuguese couple who emigrated in London, from whom social services removed their children. The film portrays the struggle for the family's union after an irreversible mistake. The film won four awards at the 77th edition of the Venice Film Festival», explains the Loulé municipality.

"Films with Stars" has as media partner Rui Tendinha.

This initiative will take place in compliance with all the norms and recommendations issued by the Directorate-General for Health regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.
