The National Maritime Authority and the General Directorate of Health (DGS) are joining forces for a campaign to raise awareness of the precautions to be taken during this bathing season, with the motto “Don't give safety holidays”.

The campaign aims to "encourage responsible citizenship, through recommendations in terms of safety and behavior to be adopted on the beaches that help to minimize the risk of bathing accidents", says the DGS.

During the 2021 bathing season, there have already been nine fatal accidents, the probable cause being sudden illness in most situations.

This year, as in the last ones, the DGS has verified that "many of the situations that result in accidents on the beaches are not due to people having difficulties in the water, but to other situations such as digestion stops, thermal shock, dehydration or cardiorespiratory arrest" .

Thus, in order to minimize the number of accidents during the current bathing season, the National Maritime Authority and the General Directorate of Health reinforce the importance of complying with the recommendations, for a safer bathing season.
