Albufeira: Praia do Ninho das Andorinhas evacuated due to risk of landslide

Access to the beach is prohibited

The Maritime Police of Albufeira Post and the Municipal Civil Protection evacuated Praia do Ninho das Andorinhas due to the risk of the cliff collapsing, this Thursday afternoon, 12 August. Although this is not considered a bathing beach, around 30 people were removed from the beach.

The action was articulated with the Portuguese Environment Agency/ARH of the Algarve, which, according to the Maritime Authority, detected "signs of imminent collapse, namely open traction cracks".

At the moment, “the adoption of a controlled blasting” is still under evaluation.

According to the captaincy of the Port of Portimão, the 30 bathers, "some of them foreigners", "heed the instructions very well and thanked the security forces for the speed of action."

The beach is prohibited, and access to the sand “by land and sea” has been prohibited.
