Portimão Aerodrome celebrates 50 years with new logo and photo exhibition

Space opened on August 27, 1971

The Aerodrome of Portimão celebrates this Friday, 27th of August, 50 years with a new logo and a photographic exhibition.

Inaugurated on August 27, 1971, the Municipal Aerodrome of Portimão, located in the Montes de Alvor area, celebrates half a century of operation in the service of the region through a program of initiatives that will last until the end of the year.

The program starts at 10:00 am on the 27th, with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque at the entrance of the Aerodrome and the tasting of the traditional birthday cake, followed by the opening of the traveling exhibition of photographs “Momentos do Aeródromo”, by José Estiveira.

A tandem jump with the flag of the 11th anniversary of the Aerodrome of Portimão was scheduled for 00:50 am, which will later be handed over to the Municipality of Portimão. On the occasion, the municipality will distribute bags with local souvenirs to passengers of the regional airline Portimão/Cascais/Bragança, which the company Sevenair operates from this runway.

This logo is the result of a graphic study carried out by the communication services of the municipality itself and intends to associate the commemorations of the equipment's XNUMXth anniversary with the present day, with no direct costs involved in the process of creating this new identity and commemorative stamp.

Another of the initiatives that are part of the commemorations program is a graphic reference to the XNUMXth anniversary of the Portimão Aerodrome, displayed in one of the windows of the Balcão Único Municipal, located on Rua do Comércio.

As a natural result of the sustainable growth that has been taking place lately, and except for the atypical year of 2020, there were 15.159 aircraft movements at the Aerodrome throughout 2018 and 16.451 movements in 2019, between landings and take-offs. With regard to the movement of paratroopers, there were 78.247 jumps in 2018 and 86.685 jumps in 2019.

The potential that characterizes this infrastructure has attracted the installation of several schools, namely Aeroalgarve, AeroVip, Skydive Algarve, Skydive Seven and GFS – Escola de Aviação. In addition, Skycafé provides support to countless Aerodrome visitors, who can have a light meal, a cold drink or a coffee there while watching the movements on the runway and in the air.

Born in Silves, where he was born 71 years ago, the owner of the photographic exhibition “Momentos do Aeródromo” considers himself a generalist, despite some subjects of interest to him, namely aerial photography, this selection of images illustrates the various activities that take place at the Aerodrome of Portimão.

Regular participant in training actions, in recent decades José Estiveira has dedicated himself to teaching photography, in addition to exhibiting collectively and individually in numerous institutions across the country, especially the Museu da Marinha or the Sociedade Nacional de Geografia, as well. as in the cultural facilities of several municipalities.

The exhibition can be seen daily, from 9:00 am to 19:00 pm, between August 27th and September 13th at the Aerodrome, carried over from September 14th to 30th to the Alvor Market, where it will be exhibited from Monday to Saturday, from 8:00 am to 13:00 pm.

Finally, this photographic exhibition will be held between 29 November and 7 January 2022 at the premises of EMARP – Municipal Water and Waste Company of Portimão, and can be seen on weekdays, from 8:00 am to 17:30 pm.

The program started on August 27th constitutes the first phase of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Portimão Aerodrome, which will run until the end of the year with other activities, which will be announced in due course.
