The city of Silves goes back to the Middle Ages this Friday, July 30th, with the streets of the city's historic center filling with color, medieval props and sounds. Until the 22nd of August, visitors will be able to insert themselves with memories of the Medieval Fair which, this year, will not take place due to pandemic issues.

Those who visit Silves during this municipality's initiative may find “a city decked out, stroll through its streets decorated with the ornaments usually used in editions of the Medieval Fair and record the moment in one of the various scenarios with history”, says the municipality of Silves in a note sent to essays.

Scenarios with history, Al-Andalus nights, a medieval tournament, concerts at the Castle and the typical gastronomy of this time with the Medieval Paladars will be some of the highlights of the initiative.

For 24 days, Silves Medieval will present several animation proposals, one for each night of the event.

Thus, the castle of Silves will open doors for four concerts taking place on the 30th of July, with Al-Folk and Arakisati, 31st, with the Arabian, 1st of August, with Alhambra and Emad Selim, and 2, with the Albaluna. Tickets for each concert cost three euros.

The contest set up next to al-Muthamid square will bring the medieval tournaments back to the city, between the 3rd and 12th of August, with a single session per day.

Between 13 and 22 August, the Al-Andalus nights with the Wayam Ensemble will take place at Castelo de Silves. Tickets for each of these events cost five euros.

All shows will start at 21 pm, complying with the rules and guidelines of the General Directorate of Health (DGS).

Tickets can be purchased online and in the usual places, and can also be purchased on the day and in place, from 19 pm, if there are seats available.

These initiatives are joined by Paladares Medievale, a gastronomic event that will feature the participation of more than three dozen participating restaurants, between the 30th of July and the 22nd of August.

The restaurants will include in their menu a medieval dish, which can be a snack, a tapa, a dessert or a complete meal.

In the area surrounding the participating establishments there will be street entertainment, daily, from 18:30.

In the patio al-Andaluz, located in front of the Paços do Concelho building, the municipality will also present a portico, located on Rua 5 de Outubro, "signaling the entrance into a magical environment", and works of art inspired by the Koran that decorate the usual mosque, already erected next to the city turret.

The Municipality of Silves also invites you to «visit and experience this unique environment, lived in an aspiring territory for the Algarvensis Geopark».
