Olhão: MOJU makes the Bairro Fundo Fomento à Habitação “Cool”

Youth Association of Olhão has seen an application for the Healthy Neighborhoods Program approved

Improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of the Bairro Fundo Fomento à Habitação, in Olhão, is the objective of the “Bairro Cool” project, which the MOJU – Associação Movimento Juvenil em Olhão was approved under the Healthy Neighborhoods Program.

This initiative, which has a partnership with the Chamber of Olhão, UCC Olhar+ and the Local Youth Assembly, addresses the central themes and vulnerabilities raised by the Social Diagnosis of Olhão and the survey of needs carried out with the community and proposes to work in four areas: health protection, healthy lifestyles, empowerment of participants and promotion of citizenship.

«Among the activities to be developed, the creation of a neighborhood office to be promoted in partnership with the municipality of Olhão, the dynamization of movements that trigger positive expectations about the neighborhood, the development of sports initiatives that encourage healthy and feelings of success, empowerment for autonomy through actions based on non-formal education and peer education, and an increase in health literacy in partnership with UCC Olhar+,” according to MOJU.

The “Bairro Cool” Project is one of the 17 approved for the Algarve, out of a total of 246 proposals approved at national level, under the Healthy Bairros Program, «a public program, of a participatory nature, to improve health conditions, well- living and quality of life in vulnerable territories».

«It is a program of small interventions, through support for projects presented by associations, communities, non-governmental organizations, civic movements and residents' organizations, in conjunction with local authorities and health authorities. Above all, it aims to give some power, in the sense of “being able to do”, to communities, residents and people or organizations involved in vulnerable territories», explains the association.
