Young Algarvian kayakers from KCCA become national champions

K2 Initiates (Leonor Matos/Júlia Luís) became national champions

The young canoeists of the Kayak Clube Castores do Arade (KCCA), in Lagoa, became national champions in K4 500m Infantis (Iara bebiano/Inês Carapinha/Íris Rietkerk/Clélia Santos), K4 500m Initiates (Leonor Matos/Júlia Luís/Lara Carapinha/Nadine Santos) and K2 500m Initiates (Leonor Matos/Júlia Luís).

It was on the last weekend of July that the last stage of the National Championship of In-Line Regattas took place, this time with athletes from 11 to 16 years old.

The race took place again at the Canoeing Track of Montemor-o-Velho and the KCCA rose again three times to the highest place on the podium, with the K4 Initiates Females team winning a national title for the first time.

There were also three silver medals for the athletes of the Algarve team, in K1 500m Infantil (Inês Carapinha), K4 500m Cadets (Leonor Ramos/Verónica Lucas/Maria Wilkinson/Maria Costa) and K2 500m Infantil (Clélia Santos/Íris Rietkerk).

As for the bronze medals, they were obtained in K1 200m Cadets (Ruben Luís), K2 500m Children (Inês Carapinha/Iara Bebiano) and K4 500m Cadets (Rodrigo Gabriel/Diogo Araújo/Miguel Costa/Ruben Luís).

At the collective level, in the sum of the two weekends of competition, the Algarve club was in 6th place among 53 participating clubs.
Ruben Luís, who won the bronze medal in K1 200m Cadets, wants the call to the national team, aiming to participate in the Olympic Hopes at the end of September.

Meanwhile, on August 6th, Emanuel Silva and David Varela, KCCA athletes, will begin their participation in the Olympic Games, with the medal competition taking place in the early morning of Saturday.
