England to eliminate quarantine for EU vaccinates

decision was made today

England will eliminate the quarantine of travelers from the European Union (EU) and the United States who have full vaccinations in their countries of origin, announced today the British Transport Minister.

In a statement on the social network Twitter, Grant Shaapps said that the measure, demanded by the tourism sector and by expatriates, will take effect from next Monday, at 4:00 am local time (the same time in Lisbon).

Earlier, the British television network BBC, without providing sources, said that the decision was taken today at a meeting of the Council of Ministers, led by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, whose details should be released in the next few hours.

The elimination of the quarantine, however, does not imply the carrying out of new screening tests to Covid-19, says the BBC.

Until now, only citizens who had received the two doses of vaccine in the UK were exempt from the ten-day quarantine when returning to England, with the exception of a country considered to be at maximum risk.

The change will mean that any citizen of a fully vaccinated EU or US country will be able to enter England without being isolated, whether for tourism, business, visiting family or participating in sporting events.

In the case of the European Union, for now, only France is excluded, taking into account the concern of the United Kingdom with the prevalence of the Beta variant (South Africa) in French territory.

Portugal, which is part of the so-called “amber list”, is covered by this measure.
