European funds finance investment of 34 million euros in 63 schools in the Algarve

Investment has support of 18,6 million euros from the ERDF

The Algarve's municipalities are investing 34 million euros in 63 schools across the region, with funding from the Algarve Regional Operational Program (CRESC Algarve 2020), reported this Monday, 12 July, the Regional Coordination and Development Commission ( CCDR) of the Algarve.

With support of 18,6 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), applications have already been approved for an eligible amount of 27 million euros, which are enabling the Algarve's municipalities to invest in the improvement of school infrastructure. The execution of the projects will take place between 2021 and 2022.

Of this amount, the Algarve region has already implemented, by 30 June, 41,51% of the European funds approved by CRESC Algarve 2020 for this qualification of schools.

“The requalification of schools is part of Investment Priority 10.5 – Investment in education, training, vocational training and skills and lifelong learning through the development of training and teaching infrastructures under Axis 7 – Strengthening skills », says the CCDR Algarve.

In the Algarve region, this investment will include the removal of fiber cement in 30 schools and the requalification, reconstruction and equipping of Basic Education establishments in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd cycles and secondary.

The schools targeted for intervention will thus be resized and modernized, «creating conditions for the use of computers and experimental activities, improving their functional, environmental and thermal/acoustic comfort conditions».

"This improvement in the quality of educational equipment and the skills made available to the school community, students and teachers is intended to contribute to the success of the educational path, qualifying learning with a relevant impact on reducing school dropouts and combating social and territorial inequalities », concludes the CCDR Algarve.
