Castro Marim increases annual subsidy given to Volunteer Firefighters

Subsidy awarded is four times the amount transferred by Castro Marim to AHB

The Castro Marim City Council increased the annual subsidy given to the Volunteer Fire Brigade of Vila Real de Santo António (BVRSA) and Castro Marim, after signing a protocol this Friday, 2 July.

An annual subsidy of 180 euros will thus be awarded, quadrupling the amount transferred by the municipality of Castro Marim to the Humanitarian Association of Firefighters four years ago.

«This is a more stable support and that responds to the needs and expenses inherent to the permanent service of assistance that the Firefighters Volunteers provide in the municipality of Castro Marim», said Francisco Amaral, president of the City Council.

These services require a permanent mechanism in terms of both means and human resources, which represents "a high economic effort, not covered by transfers from the state", emphasizes the municipality.

Castro Marim will, this year, move forward with the construction of a local training unit in the village of Azinhal, with the capacity to train Civil Protection and Firefighters agents in a wide range of subjects.

This local unit will also be a barracks for the pre-positioning of means for possible disasters and could become an accommodation unit to provide support in the Algarve-Andalusia territory.

The unit will reinforce BVRSA's strategic position in the Algarve and place Baixo Guadiana as a center for pre-positioning resources, in an investment of 900 thousand euros, co-financed by the Iberian Center for Research and Combating Forest Fires (CILIFO).
