Algarvio José Costa and Jorge Lima will compete in the 49er medal race at the Olympic Games

Final race on Monday

The sailor from Tavira José Costa and Jorge Lima guaranteed a place in the “medal race” of the 49er competition, in the Olympic Games, which will be disputed on Monday, after having secured the sixth position in the general classification of this competition today.

The two Portuguese athletes won two fourth places and an 11th place in the last three of 12 races in the qualifying phase for the final race, achieving a total of 72.

New Zealanders Peter Burling and Blair Tuke, with 52 points, were the best classified at this stage of the competition.

The final race, which will feature the ten best crews of the phase that has just ended, counts double, with all teams carrying all the points obtained in the first phase of the competition.
