Algarve has a catamaran that is “friendly” for people in wheelchairs

Algarvian Queen is a catamaran of the private company Ria Formosa Boat Tours

For the first time in the Algarve, wheelchair users will be able to take a trip along the Ria Formosa aboard the Algarvian Queen, the “friend” catamaran.

Ria Formosa Boat Tours, a private company based in Faro, built the Algarvian Queen, a catamaran with the capacity to transport 16 customers without mobility difficulties or 10 in wheelchairs.

«We thought that most companies that promote tours in the region were not looking at these people, many of whom would like to be able to travel calmly in the Ria, go to Deserta or Barra Velha, to be able to do birdwatching or simply enjoying an incredible sunset aboard a boat, which is an experience that many have never had”, says Paulo Gonçalves, owner and one of the skippers (crew, in Portuguese) of the Algarvian Queen.

The owner guarantees that, soon, a small crane will be introduced on board that will allow these customers “to have another experience with a little more adrenaline: a “suspended dive”, something that will allow them to stay in contact with the water , in total safety, in a chair specially prepared for this purpose».

The Algarvian Queen is prepared for groups, making the Ria Formosa known throughout the year.

The vessel's crew consists of a master and a sailor, assisted by an experienced member in the operational management of tours/experiences and activities.
