Music teacher Paulo Cunha was distinguished this Tuesday, June 1st, with the 2020/2021 Professional of the Year award, given by the Rotary Club of Faro.
This award was given for the «dedication» of Paulo Cunha «to the profession he embraced and for the project of Music Education classes for deaf children, considered an example at European level».
Paulo Cunha teaches at Escola EB 2, 3 de Santo António in Faro and has been a Music Education teacher for deaf students since the 2000/2021 school year, and is also a teacher trainer in Specific Didactics.
He is a founding partner of several institutions linked to the world of music, including the Conservatory of Music of Olhão and the Associação Cultural Música XXI, and is also a member and artistic director of the group “Vá-de-Viró” and choir director of the “Coral Mulher” Other Voices”.
He was professor of Piano, Musical Training and Ensemble Class at the Conservatório Regional do Algarve, from 1982 to 2004 and visiting professor at the Escola Superior de Educação of Faro – University of Algarve, where he taught the subject “Joint Artistic Practices”. In 2007, he was awarded by the City Council of Faro with the Municipal Merit Medal – Gold Grade.
Bruno Lage, president of the Rotary Club of Faro, said at the time of the award ceremony that professor Paulo Cunha, «in addition to performing with rigor, pride and enthusiasm his profession as a music education teacher, has dedicated himself, throughout his life, with zeal, to culture and associations , always linked to the world of music, but without forgetting the social and humanitarian causes, for which the distinction now given is completely deserved».
The Rotary Club of Faro, which turns 60 this year, belongs to the Rotary International movement that brings together more than 35 clubs around the world with the mission of serving others, spreading integrity and promoting goodwill, peace and global understanding through consolidation good relationships between professional, business and community leaders.
