Tourism Region says the Algarve is at «maximum strength» for the summer

«The summer high season arrives in the Algarve at a crucial moment of the resumption of tourist activity and finds the destination's Sun and Sea offer in full force»

The Tourism Region says that the Algarve is in «maximum strength» for the summer, giving as an example the awards of Best Beach Destination in the World or the distinctions of the Golden Quality Beaches.

Despite the pandemic's constraints, for the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), «the summer high season arrives in the Algarve at a crucial moment of the resumption of tourist activity and finds the destination's Sun and Sea offer in full force».

In addition to the fact that, in November 2020, the Algarve was distinguished, for the first time, as Best Beach Destination in the World, in the Grand Final of World Travel AwardsAnyway, there are more reasons to visit the region.

Tavira, with four beaches, and Faro and Vila do Bispo, with three, are among the municipalities with the most ZERO Pollution Beaches in Portugal, a distinction awarded by the environmentalist association ZERO to beaches where no microbiological contamination was detected in the analyzes carried out on bathing waters over the last three bathing seasons.

In all, this year the region offers 14 ZERO Pollution beaches.

«Another good news is that the Algarve is the national region with the highest annual increase in Beaches with Golden Quality, the award given by the environmental association Quercus to distinguish the quality of bathing water on Portuguese beaches», says RTA.

A total of 93 beaches in the destination have golden quality and the municipality of Albufeira is the one with the most in the whole country, with 20 awarded beaches.

Albufeira is also the leading national municipality in Blue Flags, with a total of 26 awards hoisted on 25 beaches and in the local marina. In 2021, the European Blue Flag Association awarded 91 Blue Flags to the Algarve, a symbol of environmental quality that will be flown on 87 beaches and four marinas in the region.

Last year, the Algarve also offered visitors 45 Accessible Beaches, which unfurl the white flag of the Accessible Beach Program – Beach for All! to mark bathing areas accessible to people with reduced mobility.
