Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) launched the tender for the expansion work of the electric traction substation in Tunis, a contract worth 1 million euros associated with the electrification project of the Algarve Line.

The current Electric Traction Substation (SST) in Tunis only feeds the Tunis-Faro (already electrified). The expansion of this SST will allow the electrification of the section between Tunes and Lagos.

The intervention will be carried out under the design / construction regime and 'includes the execution of the execution projects, assembly and operation diagrams, supply of materials, equipment, assembly and respective civil construction works, and services and tests necessary for the correct functioning of the installations', according to IP.

The contract for the electrification of the Algarve Line currently underway aims to equip the Tunes-Lagos and Faro-Vila Real de Santo António with electric traction system (25 kV – 50 Hz system).

To feed the section between Faro and Vila Real de Santo António, a new SST will be built in Olhão, whose tender is currently being prepared for launch.

The electrification project of the Algarve Line is part of Ferrovia2020, the modernization and requalification program of the National Railway Network.
