The Municipality of Portimão will install intelligent irrigation systems in the county's green spaces, which will enable the reprogramming of 'the monitoring of consumption and interruption of water supply, in an automated way, through the parameterization of consumption and rainfall values, or by indication of an operator”, announced the municipality.
The system will be implemented in fifty green spaces, where a total of 71 irrigation meters will be installed (approximately 15% of the total units) and 240 irrigation controllers, «allowing to act automatically in the event of breakages or rain , with the main objective of implementing measures for the optimization of consumption and good management of such a precious and increasingly scarce resource, such as water, in the irrigation systems included».
«The implementation of the system will create operational capacity to respond in a timely manner to the intervention and irrigation management needs of the areas included and distributed by the parish of Portimão, with special emphasis on the city centre, Praia da Rocha and along the main road axes, as are Avenida Paul Harris and Avenida São Lourenço da Barrosa, better known as the V6», added the Câmara de Portimão.
The choice of these spaces was made «taking into account the greatest potential for saving water, so large irrigation areas were selected, mainly lawns and meadows, spaces with a history of ruptures at the level of the irrigation network and, finally, areas that constitute areas consistent irrigation systems'.
"This will be the first phase of an intervention that will be progressively extended to the county's other green spaces, covered by LoRaWAN technology, which will support communications between the components of this project, which will allow the extension of remote and centralized management to other sectors /areas that the Municipality of Portimão may deem relevant”, concluded the municipality.
