Young Algarve accordionist Pedro Fernandes wins 1st prize in an international competition

The student from the Conservatory of Olhão interpreted a song from the film “O Fabuloso Destino de Amélie Poulain”

The young Algarve accordionist Pedro Fernandes, a student at the Conservatory of Music in Olhão, won yesterday, the 18th, the 1st Jury Prize, in the soloist category – 2nd cycle, in the International Sound Band Contest, which took place in Isla Cristina, Spain.

Pedro Fernandes is a student in Professor Anabela Silva's accordion class and performed the song “La Valse d'Amélie”, composed by Yann Tiersen, which is part of the soundtrack of the film “The Fabulous Fate of Amélie Poulain" by Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

The Conservatory of Music of Olhão went public to congratulate «all those involved for the dedication and work carried out», directing «a great blessing» to the Conservatório Vicente Sanchís, from Isla Cristina, the organizer of the initiative, for promoting the contest.
